To reach more users, OpenAI launched its most affordable ChatGPT subscription in India at INR 380 per month (around $4.60). The company aims to reach nearly one billion internet users in India. Students are driving much of this growth. Weekly active users in India have quadrupled over the past year, making it the largest market for student users globally.

Competition and Legal Challenges

OpenAI faces competition from Google’s Gemini AI and the Indian startup Perplexity, both offering free advanced AI plans. The company is also addressing legal complaints from news outlets and publishers alleging unauthorized use of their content during AI training. OpenAI has denied these claims.
