Apple iPhone 17 Pro Launches with 48MP Telephoto & 8x Zoom
Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, introducing a redesigned body and one of the most powerful camera systems on the market.
Design & Performance
Both models are powered by the A19 Pro chipset, delivering faster performance and improved efficiency. Apple has also introduced a larger battery, with eSIM-only versions getting slightly more capacity compared to models with physical SIM trays.
Unlike last year’s titanium build, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup now features an aluminium unibody paired with a new vapor chamber cooling system for better heat management.
Major Camera Upgrades
The biggest highlight is the telephoto camera upgrade, moving from a 12MP sensor to a 48MP sensor. This enables 8x optical zoom, one of the highest in the industry, rivaling Vivo’s X200 at 8.7x. Apple also offers 40x digital zoom, though still behind Samsung and Google’s 100x, and has not clarified whether AI-assisted regeneration is included.
A new rectangular camera bar, dubbed the “plateau”, spans the entire back of the phone, housing the upgraded camera system.
The front-facing camera also gets an upgrade to 18MP, with support for simultaneous dual recording from both front and rear cameras — a first for iPhones.
