Sydney Sweeney Reflects on Bathwater Soap Buzz

Before making headlines for her American Eagle jeans campaign, Sydney Sweeney stirred conversation with her limited-edition soap from Dr. Squatch, Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss. The novelty product sold out in seconds, but it sparked mixed reactions on social media.

Sweeney recently told The Wall Street Journal:

“It’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience.”

Interestingly, she noticed a trend in the backlash:

“It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”

This references the viral Jacob Elordi bathwater candle, released in January 2024, which became a social media sensation following memes from the movie Saltburn. While Sweeney’s product divided opinions, Elordi’s bathwater was widely adored online.

The conversation around Sweeney didn’t stop there. Her American Eagle jeans campaign, with the slogan “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans”, sparked debates over body image and heritage, drawing comparisons by some social media users to “Nazi propaganda.” Even the White House commented on the backlash as an example of “cancel culture run amok.”

Despite these controversies, Sweeney maintains her focus on her work and staying connected with her audience, reflecting humor and thoughtfulness in navigating viral internet moments.
